Quick win oriented development

In my first job as a developer, I worked for a medium sized company where the CEO was a developer, turned manager, turned CEO. You could still find old lines of codes in the codebase from his time as a developer. This was the first, and so far, last time I have ever encountered this phenomenon. But I digress.

He had his own philosophies about software development. And one concept which he pushed hard was, Quick-Win oriented development (TM), or QWOD for short.

Excitement capital

So think about this. A business doing projects have set aside budgets and spend their time and money on completing projects. For any given project, they don't want to run out of time, and they don't want to run out of money before the project is completed.

But for personal projects you have only time to consider. Or do you? What about your excitement?

Easy, fast, cheap

Hello!

I am software developer. I have worked on large and small systems. But in recent years my time has almost exclusively been spent on developing larger systems for large and gigantic corporations.

Lately I have been thinking about how the process for personal tools might differ from those of larger organizations. So in this place I want to explore solutions and acceptable compromises for building usable software products easy, fast and cheap.
